Ahead of today’s NCAA Tournament meeting between the No. 1 seed Oregon Ducks and No. 16 Holy Cross, a well-known Holy Cross alum took to Twitter for some friendly trash talk. That someone was none other than the outspoken Bill Simmons.
To start off gameday, Simmons shared a photo of the 1947 Holy Cross men’s basketball team which won the national championship. Simmons used that to take a shot at Oregon’s basketball program, asking where its national championship team photo was.

Obviously, Bill Simmons thought Holy Cross had the upper hand.
Unfortunately, he was wrong.

As it turns out, Oregon won the national championship back in 1939 — the first NCAA Tournament. Whoops. Score one for the Ducks fan base. After the response. Simmons took his defeat in stride and responded with a friendly remark.

Let’s hope Holy Cross has a stronger performance than Bill Simmons on Friday. They’ll need it if they want to become the first 16-seed to knock off a No. 1.
