There is no doubting that the NFL is trying to become a global brand as they have played multiple games outside of the country in both Toronto and London and will be playing a game in Mexico City over the next three years. Now, it looks like they could be taking the games to the Far East as a regular season game in China is a possibility.
Albert Breer of NFL Network reported that the NFL is reviewing their options to play a game in China in 2018. This could be just a test run to see if it works, but American football has already proven to be very popular in China.
China already hosts the American Football League of China and has proved to be pretty popular in the east Asian country. The move to have a game in the country makes a lot of sense as teams and individuals alike could gain major merchandising opportunities in China.
At one point, the NFL was planning on having exhibition preseason game in China in 2009, but those plans fell through. It now looks like the country could be getting a game after all.
