The Stanford Cardinal fired head coach Johnny Dawkins just last week, but with his track record, it would only be a matter of time before he was picked up. That came Tuesday night when he was hired to be the new head coach at Central Florida.
The Knights announced the move late Tuesday night and it is a huge move for the the team. Dawkins has had a good bit off success with the Cardinal and he should be able to turn things around with UCF, who just fired Donnie Jones after six seasons earlier this month.
Johnny Dawkins spent eight years with Stanford and amassed a record of 156-115. He led the Cardinal to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and two NIT championships in 2012 and 2015.
The Knights have not been to the NCAA Tournament since 2005 and have not had a winning record since the 2012-13 season when they went 20-11 and did not participate in any postseason invitational tournament.
