The Syracuse Orange have had the most surprising run through the NCAA Tournament as they became just the fourth double-digit seed to advance to the Final Four. Many seem to have confidence in the Orange’s chances on Saturday, including former star player Carmelo Anthony.
Anthony spoke with reporters earlier this week and talked about how confident he feels in his former team. He went so far as to guarantee a Syracuse upset win over North Carolina on Saturday.
“We’re going to beat them,” Anthony said. “Guarantee? Yeah. We’re the underdogs for sure. You can’t just win off momentum. You got to go out and play the game. It’s not going to be a walk in the park, but I feel we’re going to get them. I have a feeling.”
Carmelo Anthony was a part of the 2003 Syracuse team that won their national championship, their first and only in school history. The Orange have yet to return to the national title game since, but they certainly have as good of a chance as the Tar Heels.
It is rare to see one team beat another three times in one year, so the Orange have everything riding in their favor. We will have to wait until tomorrow night to see if Anthony’s guarantee comes true.
The Orange and Tar Heels take the court Saturday at approximately 8:50 p.m. EST on TBS.
