North Carolina beats Syracuse, 83-66; will play for national title

The North Carolina Tar Heels were favored to beat the Syracuse Orange in the Final Four and they did exactly what they were supposed to. It took a strong second half showing from Roy Williams’s club, but they walked away from the game with an 83-66 win.

The Tar Heels, led by senior Brice Johnson, took a 39-28 lead into halftime and they seemed to be ready to pull away in the second. However, the Orange made a comeback midway through the half, cutting the score down to just eight points.

The Tar Heels prevailed late and increased their lead to 17 points and they never looked back. The Tar Heels went on to the big win as Johnson recorded 16 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore guard Joel Berry II had a good showing with eight points and 10 assists.

North Carolina will face off against Villanova, who destroyed the Oklahoma Sooners 95-51, in the national championship game. This is their first meeting in the NCAA Tournament since 2013 and first in the Final Four since 2009.

The Tar Heels won both those of match-ups and moved on to win the national championship in 2009. The two teams will meet up on Monday, April 4 with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. EST on TBS.
