Jerry Jones has insisted that the Dallas Cowboys will not be taking a quarterback with the No. 4 pick. Jones has also made it known that there is no debate over the starting position in Dallas whatsoever, and that we can fully expect Tony Romo to be under center for many years to come.
But it’s clear that Dallas is not comfortable with having current backups Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers behind an injury prone Romo.
According to reports, the Cowboys have scheduled pre-draft visits with six quarterbacks. Paxton Lynch, Jared Goff, Christian Hackenberg, Jacoby Brissett, Connor Cook, and Carson Wentz will be meeting at the Cowboys’ Valley Ranch facility in the near future.
Some of the quarterbacks have already made connections with the team. Wentz met with Dallas during the Senior Bowl, and Penn State’s Hackenberg had a private workout with the team last week. Lynch also met with the team previously in recent times.
Does this mean that Jones has changed his mind? Perhaps not, but his move to use a whole one fifth of the Cowboys’ allowed pre-draft visits on the quarterback position leaves more than enough room for speculation.
