Adam Jones defies Orioles, hits teammate with cake

Ahead of the 2016 MLB season, the Baltimore Orioles decided to take away their players’ fun when they announced a ban on pies being used to celebrate a teammate’s performance in a game. However, after a walkoff win on opening day, Adam Jones decided to have a little fun with it.

The Orioles beat the Minnesota Twins 3-2 on Monday thanks to a single by Matt Wieters in the bottom of the ninth ending. As he was giving a postgame interview, Jones decided to smash Wieters in the face with what looked to be a pie, but he went on to insist that it was a cake he used.

He spoke with reporters and questioned them on if they would like to talk about the game or his postgame celebration.

You want to talk about the game or pies?” He asked a Baltimore Sun reporter. “I’ll probably get a letter. I’ll plead the fifth.”

Manager Buck Showalter even defended Adam Jones saying that he actually used a cake. However, Mary, who works for Dangerously Delicious Pies, the company that has supplied the Orioles with pies since 2013, said that they had dropped off four pies ahead of the game and the one in the picture does look like one of theirs.

“We didn’t really suspect that there would be any smashing yesterday, so we had made four pies to take over just to wish them a happy new season, and the cram pie is a lot bigger, it’s the kind we sell in the store,” she told CBS 101.9 in Baltimore.

So, there you have it. Jones used a pie to celebrate the team’s big win and he will probably get some kind of reprimand from his team from it.
