The Dallas Cowboys are working hard to identify the team’s top target in the 2016 NFL Draft later this month. If the way the latest rumor winds are swirling is any indication, there is a real chance that Jerry Jones could be looking for his quarterback of the future.
While TFY Draft Insider’s Tony Pauline identified Florida State star Jalen Ramsey as the Dallas Cowboys’ top target, North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz is also very high on the team’s draft board.
Per Pauline, Wentz is one of the Cowboys’ top three targets.
Along with Wentz and Ramsey, Ohio State Buckeyes star running back Ezekiel Elliott was identified as a “top three prospect” in the eyes of Dallas’ talent evaluators.
The idea that the Cowboys are high on Wentz does not come as a surprise. After all, he is the highest rated quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft and he worked closely with the Cowboys coaching staff during the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
With the familiarity between the two sides, Dallas likely has more information on Wentz than any team in the league.
So if they are confident he can become the franchise quarterback of the future, it would be wise to pull the trigger at No. 4. Of course, it all comes down to whether Wentz would still be on the board.
