Michigan State loses two defensive linemen

The Michigan State Spartans are hoping to return to the College Football Playoff for the second straight season, but first they will have to address some departures along the defensive line that delivered a hit to the team’s depth.

Late Monday night, Michigan State sent out a press release announcing sophomore defensive linemen Craig Evans and Montez Sweat have left the program for personal reasons.

Sweat, who was suspended by Dantonio last season, was competing for a starting job on Mark Dantonio’s defense, while Evans would have provided depth on a defensive line that suffered previous departures from seniors Shilique Calhoun and Lawrence Thomas.

The Spartans spring comes to an end this weekend.

It will be interesting to see how the program addresses the losses moving forward as they look to be major players yet again in the Big Ten and college football world.
