Video: Virginia golfer Lauren Coughlin gets engaged after winning ACC title

Virginia golfer Lauren Coughlin had a pretty good weekend which wrapped up with an amazing Sunday. After winning the ACC championship with a pretty dominant showing, her boyfriend, former Cavalier football player John Pond, decided to surprise her with a marriage proposal.

Coughlin had a great run through the tournament this weekend. She helped the Cavaliers win their second straight championship over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and won the individual title by shooting a nine-under 207.

What happened she was presented the trophy was something out of a Nicholas Sparks novel.

I don’t think anyone had a better weekend that Lauren Coughlin. The only thing that could make this better is if she goes on to win the national championship in a few weeks.

Pond is fairly well known by the University of Virginia as he played center on the football team for four seasons and graduated in December. He had a pretty good idea of when he would propose and even let Coughlin know that he might have had to change his plans.

He told me that he wouldn’t have done it if I had lost it in playoff or lost it on the last hole,” Coughlin told the Roanoke Times. “If I had finished third or fourth, he was still going to do it, just not right then. I still would have gotten the proposal.”

Campus Sports would like to send our congratulations to the happy couple.
