Philadelphia Eagles trade for No. 2 overall pick in 2016 NFL Draft

Well, that escalated quickly. After plenty of rumors swirling regarding the Cleveland Browns shopping the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles came swooping in to make a deal.

On Wednesday, the two teams announced the Eagles now hold the No. 2 overall pick in next week’s draft in exchange for a number of 2016 and future draft picks.

Albert Breer of the NFL Network shared a full breakdown of the trade, which sends five total picks — including a future first- and second-rounder — to the Cleveland Browns.

There is currently no word on who the Eagles could be targeting, but conventional wisdom would say they are eager to select whichever quarterback the Rams pass up on. Or, Philadelphia could be trying to spoil the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys’ plans by snagging Ezekiel Elliott.

We will find out soon.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans completed a trade for the No. 1 overall pick. It’s safe to say there should be plenty of excitement and intrigue next month in Chicago.
