The sport of professional skiing isn’t really a popular sport in the states, but it popular across the globe and certainly can provide for some record-breaking moments. X Games skier Tom Wallisch found that out when he set the world record for longest rail grind at 424 feet.
ESPN filmed a short documentary about Wallisch’s journey to break the record that spanned over a week. It looked like tragedy had struck after a two-day break in attempts when Wallisch found the rail, which was custom built on site, knocked over.
However, the team worked to put the rail back together and he gave it one last day of attempts where he finally broke the record.
424 feet is longer than a football field and also seems like a nice afternoon jog. Tom Wallisch went that far on a rail while wearing a pair of skiis.
I am lucky to get down the bunny slope without breaking my tailbone.
Congrats, Tom.
