Canadian HS basketball player arrested for actually being 30 years old

Jonathon Nicola, a junior at Canadian high school Catholic Central, was believed to have a pretty big career in the sport of basketball. At 6-foot-9, he seemed to have everything going for him, except for the fact that he was actually 30 years old.

The Windsor Star in Windsor, Canada reported that Nicola, a South Sudan transfer who was believed to be 17 years old, was arrested under the country’s Immigration Refugee Protection Act. A spokesperson did not say exactly what he was being accused of.

There’s really not a whole lot to say,” spokesman Stephen Fields told the newspaper. “Because of the fact this is a matter that’s still outstanding before the federal authorities, obviously we can’t really comment on it. Beyond that there’s not a whole lot to say.”

Jonathon Nicola certainly has an odd story and that will likely come to a justified close, but things are certainly not done yet.
