Jake Arrieta throws first no-hitter of 2016 season

|

The 2016 MLB season is only about a month old, but the Chicago Cubs have already put themselves firmly at the top of the league. Pitcher Jake Arrieta has been a big part of their success and he became the first man to throw a no hitter this season.

The Cubs crushed the Cincinnati Reds 16-0, racking up 18 hits on the night. Arrieta had a huge night for the Cubs as he threw nine innings and recorded six strike outs on the night.

This is the second no-hitter for Jake Arrieta as he has had an impressive run in his last 11 starts. The no-hitter was the 15th for the Cubs and just the third player to throw multiple no-hitters in their illustrious history.

The Cubs are now an MLB-best 12-4 after the big win and it certainly looks like they are poised to get back to the playoffs and possibly get back to the World Series for the first time since 1945.
