Amile Jefferson given medical redshirt, eligible for 2016-17 season

The Duke Blue Devils lost a big piece of their team last season when forward Amile Jefferson went down with a broken foot in December. After injury, he did not return to the court and it looked like he would never play for the Blue Devils again.

However, he has been pushing for a medical redshirt so he could add one more season of eligibility to his career. It was reported early Friday morning that he had gotten that redshirt and he would be eligible for the 2016-17 season.

This is huge news for the Blue Devils as they already have Grayson Allen returning for one more season and have one of the better recruiting classes with Harry Giles and Frank Jackson. Adding on one of their better frontcourt players will be huge for them next year.

During the 2015-16 season, Amile Jefferson was averaging 11.4 points and 10.3 rebounds in just nine games. He was the team’s leading rebounder through the first half of the season.

He should be able to take over for Marshall Plumlee in that type of role and give the Blue Devils a chance to compete for a national championship this year.
