The Illinois Fighting Illini are looking to have a reboot over the next few years and that started with them hiring new head coach Lovie Smith. It looks like they are adding a big piece to their defense with Cal linebacker Hardy Nickerson Jr.
He is going to be transferring from Cal with his degree for his final year of eligibility. He will be able to play immediately and will have good chemistry with the defensive coordinator, who also happens to be his father.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play my final year of college football for my father,” Nickerson Jr. said in a statement released on Twitter.
