Virginia Tech suspends Adonis Alexander, Houshun Gaines indefinitely

Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente has been with the team for less than a year, and now his team is already in the news for all the wrong reasons.

On Tuesday, Fuente announced that two members of the Hokies football team, cornerback Adonis Alexander and defensive end Houshon Gaines, were to be indefinitely suspended. The coach did not clearly state why the players had been suspended, though records show Alexander recently was charged with marijuana possession.

Check that on the criminal database. Looks like something just popped up. Adonis Alexander charged with possession of marijuana. #Hokies

Houshun Gaines charged with underage purchase/possession of alcohol and marijuana possession, per Virginia Courts online database. #Hokies

The loss of both players will have definitely have an impact on Virginia’s football plans this season. Alexander was projected to be a major starter this year, after being switched from safety to the cornerback position. Gaines showed a lot of potential, and was a redshirt as a true freshman last season. He was expected to play a productive role this year, but both Gaines’ and Alexander’s futures may all be changing now.
