Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith is easily considered one of the best at his position, and really one of the best players that the 2016 NFL Draft has to offer overall. One of the only real factors that have harmed his draft stock is a knee injury sustained last season that kept him sidelined for the remainder of his college career.
Though Smith has been praised by many, it has recently become apparent that not every0ne is a huge fan of Smith. An anonymous NFL scout told Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Bob McGinn that the highly regarded linebacker “needs to be lined up” and that he is “not the smartest guy.”
A former Chicago Bears scout of thirty years, Greg Gabriel, found issue with the scout’s comment and fired back via twitter:
Scout to McGinn on Jaylon Smith.."needs to be lined up… Not the smartest guy"… This "scout" never made a school call to Notre Dame!

Calling athletes out on their smarts seems to have become a trend among scouts, considering that OSU’s Cardale Jones was recently called out for not being the “brightest cookie in the world.”
