The New York Jets selection of quarterback Christian Hackenberg with the 51st pick in the 2016 NFL Draft was a surprising move. This made Hackenberg the first quarterback taken on Day 2 and the fourth overall, but it certainly looks like the Jets did not want to stay at their position in the second round.
According to Dom Cosentino of NJ.com, Jets General Manager Mike Maccagnan said that his team tried to trade back for more picks. They could not get anyone to jump at the opportunity and decided to select Hackenberg.

However, this move may work out for them in the end as they have been looking for a quarterback recently. Ryan Fitzpatrick may not be around going into the 2016 season and Hackenberg could really fit into their system well.
There have already been talks of Christian Hackenberg playing this season, so it could only be a matter of time before he takes the field and wins the starting job for the team.
