Texas Tech dismisses linebacker Dakota Allen, two others

As the Texas Tech Red Raiders prepare for the upcoming college football season, Kliff Kingsbury and company will have to find a way to fill a big void on the defensive side of the ball.

On Thursday, it was announced that Texas Tech has dismissed three players; two on offense and a key contributor on defense.

Kingsbury announced the dismissals of  sophomore offensive lineman Robert Castaneda, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Trace Ellison and sophomore linebacker Dakota Allen “due to a failure to uphold student-athlete expectations.”

Castaneda played in 13 games last season as a rotational lineman. Ellison was not a factor for the Red Raiders, after taking a redshirt for his freshman season.

The big loss for Texas Tech in this series of dismissals is Allen.

Allen was set to be the team’s returning leading tackler for the upcoming season. Last season, Allen recorded 87 tackles, six tackles for loss and two interceptions.
