The 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass in Lake Ponte Vedra, Florida is the longest Par 3 on tour and arguably the hardest in the country. There hadn’t been a hole-in-one on the hole since Miguel Angel Jimenez did so in 2002, until Will Wilcox’s historic shot, with a yellow ball nonetheless, on Friday at the Players Championship.
Wilcox is currently tied for 29th on the leaderboard with a -5 score, but he didn’t seem to notice how far he was down after his terrific shot onto the island green. His reaction seemed to equal that of someone who had just won the lottery.

After his shot, Will Wilcox is only six shots back of leader Jason Day, but it is the history that is more important to him. His hole-in-one was only the seventh on the 17th hole in the Players Championship 34-year history.
