SEC introducing ‘collaborative’ replay review for 2016

The SEC announced on Tuesday that they would be introducing a collaborative replay review process for the 2016 season, just days after the ACC announced the same system.

This process will closely resemble what the NFL has in place where all replay footage is sent to the officials’ office in New York while being reviewed by officials on the field and in the booth.

The SEC’s review process will involve the conference’s headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.

The conference has been working on this process for some time now and the technology needed for this experiment was reportedly used and proven effective during a SEC spring game in April. Coaches and administrators will be given more details on the technology and process during the upcoming spring meetings.

“Our goal is to continue to use the best-available resources to support correct outcomes when instant replay is used,” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said. “We believe the collaborative effort, which will involve additional officiating experts during replay reviews, will enhance the Conference’s football officiating program.”

What do you think, fans? Will this help the game of football and make it more efficient or will this just be a hassle and slow things down?
