WWE grants Cody Rhodes his release

On Saturday afternoon, WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes, son to the late Dusty Rhodes and younger brother of current WWE superstar Goldust, took to Twitter and announced that he had asked the company for his release. On Sunday, just hours before their Extreme Rules pay-per-view, the company announced they had come to terms with Rhodes on his release.

There have been no details on exactly what caused Rhodes to ask for his release. However, it was reported on Sunday that Rhodes and Goldust had walked out of the Smackdown! tapings on Tuesday before cameras started rolling.

Rhodes joined WWE in 2007, teaming with “Hardcore” Bob Holly and winning the WWE Tag Team Championships before turning on him to form a team with Ted DiBiase Jr., son of “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase. For nearly the last year, he has played a role similar to his brother’s as the cosmic character Stardust.

In his near ten-year career, Cody Rhodes was a six-time WWE Tag Team Champion and a two-time Intercontinental Champion.
