The Roots drop ‘Champion’ as NBA Finals theme song

For the last two years, The Roots have served as the house band on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” They have not really had time to drop a new song, but they did just that by dropping “Champion,” a theme song for the NBA Finals.

The song itself if a throwback to their original hip-hop roots, no pun intended, rather than their sound from their 2014 album “…and then shoot your cousin.” It is a pretty interesting track and should bring a different vibe to the Finals, which are slated to begin on June 2.

They have gotten away from their musical endeavors as of late, but this is a pretty good way to reintroduce the world to The Roots. Let’s just hope they keep this going well into the future.
