Roc Thomas transferring to Jacksonville State

Roc Thomas’s career has not started the way he would have hoped. He joined the Auburn Tigers as a member of their 2014 class as a five-star running back, but he hasn’t seen much playing time and has decided to leave to continue his career.

According to multiple reports, Thomas is going to be leaving Auburn, with whom his father Frank is a former legend, and is taking his talents to the FCS. The running back will reportedly be playing for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks this season.

Thomas was expected to compete with Jovon Robinson and Kerryon Johnson for the starting role with the Tigers this year, but after he saw his playing time diminish in favor of Peyton Barber in 2015, he has decided to leave. This comes just months after rumors swirled of his departure, which head coach Gus Malzahn called “completely false.”

Robinson seemed to be the favorite heading into the summer after receiving praise from running backs coach Tim Horton. This plus just 705 total career yards with the Tigers might have been the biggest reason for Roc Thomas’s decision to transfer.
