The Big 12 has a number of options to choose from when it comes to possible expansion. The Houston Cougars are one of those options, but that doesn’t mean they are focused just on the Big 12 at this point.
The rumor mill has been turning when it comes to conference expansion for the Big 12 and the Cougars are one of the teams on the list. Of course, the team would love to have option of being at the top of their list, but also know they have to keep an open mind.
“We want Houston to be at the top of that list,” said Hunter Yurachek, Houston’s vice president for intercollegiate athletics. He later talked about focusing just on the Big 12 and said: “I think that limits us. We have to keep all our options open.”
Of course, getting to the Power Five conference is the goal for the Cougars, but their second option would likely be to stay in the AAC. It worked out pretty well for them last year as they dominated, going 13-1 and winning the championship and the Peach Bowl.
