Video: Phil Mickelson’s tee shot nails fan in head

Phil Mickelson had a pretty good start to the the Memorial Tournament when he shot at a four-under 68 in the first round on Thursday. However, he had one of his tee shots go awry when he nailed a fan in the head on the 15th hole.

Mickelson’s tee shot drifted just a bit off to the left and cracked the fan in the head. Luckily for him, he did not seem to be too hurt and he received an autographed glove from the golf legend.

Mickelson even tried to lighten the mood by cracking a pretty funny joke as he approached the volunteer.

After the round, Phil Mickelson talked about the incident and said the fan took it rather well.

I’ve hit a lot of people, a lot of people,” Mickelson said after the round. “Nobody’s taken it that well as the marshal did on 15.”

Mickelson hopes to take his hot start into the second round as he looks to make up some ground on leader Brendan Steele.
