There has been plenty of discussion about potential Big 12 expansion in recent years and now the UCF Knights are throwing their hat in the mix.
On Monday, a report from ESPN’s Jake Trotter stated University of Central Florida president John Hitt pitched his school and the city of Orlando as a perfect fit for the Big 12. The pitch was reportedly sent to Oklahoma State president Burns Hargis.
In the letter, Hitt was referencing a study that compared Orlando to other potential expansion markets, like Cincinnati and Connecticut.
It will be interesting to see how Big 12 officials and other universities in the conference react to UCF’s pitch. After all, adding a Florida-based school to the conference would open an entirely new door in the recruiting circuit.
The Big 12 is expected to vote on expansion later this summer. Do you think UCF would be a good fit?
