Photo: Ryan Shazier shows speed by beating Steelers WRs in race

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier is hoping to take his game to the next level during the 2016-17 NFL season and he seems to be taking his preparation very seriously.

In fact, if reports from team OTAs are true, he is in top shape.

This week, Shazier competed in a race with a handful of speedy wide receivers on the team — Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton and Sammie Coates. According to fellow linebacker Vince Williams, Shazier beat them all to the finish line.

How impressive is that?

Brown recorded a 4.47 at the NFL Scouting Combine, Coates recorded a time of 4.43 and Wheaton ran an impressive 4. 42. So if Shazier really is the fastest man on the team, opposing offenses should be frightened to see the speedster flying all over the field.

For what it’s worth, Shazier ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at Ohio State’s pro day. Is he finally ready to break onto the scene in 2016? Only time will tell.

The Steelers kick off their regular season on Sept. 12 against Washington on Monday Night Football.
