Rafael Nadal pulls out of Wimbledon with wrist injury

On Thursday, it was confirmed that Rafael Nadal would miss the 2016 Wimbledon Championships.

Nadal took to his Facebook account and confirmed that his doctor was not allowing him to play in the tournament this year due to a wrist injury. He said that his injury would likely worsen and possibly cause a break in his wrist if he were to play.

This is pretty big blow for Nadal, but could end up being big for others in the tournament. It might open the door for world No. 1 Novak Djokovic to take his third Grand Slam title this year.

Rafael Nadal is currently the world No. 4, behind Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer, who missed the French Open with an injury. It should be interesting to see what the rest of the field does with this opening on the court.

Wimbledon begins on Monday, June 27 with live coverage on ESPN.
