One of the most talented players in the Class of 2018 is four-star power forward Shareef O’Neal, the son of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. While Shaq was a college star at LSU, it looks like his son will begin his career in a different direction.
Last week, Shaq announced his son was choosing between Duke, Kentucky and Michigan State.
That means Shareef will not be attending his father’s alma mater, but he could still be playing in the SEC if his father has any influence.
In an interview with 247Sports, Shareef revealed his father would like him to play for John Calipari at Kentucky.
“My dad actually wants me to lean towards Kentucky,” he revealed “He has a good friendship with the coach there. I know a lot about that school because a lot of kids dream about going there. I like their style of play.”
If Shareef wants to go on to star in the NBA like his father, it’s hard to argue that there is any program better than Kentucky at preparing players for the next level.
It’s going to be interesting to follow the Windward School standout’s recruitment as it continues.
