For the talented players in the NBA, most of them started out playing pickup basketball at their local courts. Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns is no different and he showed off his roots in a recent ad for Gatorade.
Towns took a trip back to Venice Beach and took to the court. He played with top streetball names like Larry “The Bone Collector” Williams and Kwame “The Freak of Nature” Alexander and talked about the differences of playing outside as compared to playing in the air conditioning.
“It’s a different setting (than an indoor gym), but the biggest thing is this is where I started. This is where my grit, passion, desire, and a lot of my love started here, started playing outside,” Towns told For The Win during a break in the shoot. “And it’s thanks to Gatorade that I’m able to again go outside where I started my career, really, and get to go play not only against some great players, but the best legends that streetball has to offer.”
Karl-Anthony Towns is truly living any streetball kid’s dream as he has gone from the concrete to the hardwood and was recently named NBA Rookie of the Year.
