Jamaal Charles could return to field next week

After recovering from a torn ACL suffered in Week 5 last season, Kansas City Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles could finally be close to returning to the field.

According to coach Andy Reid, we “might see” Charles participating in Organized Team Activities next week.

If Charles is present next week, it will give the team a good idea of where he stands health-wise coming into the 2016 season. Of course, the running back is not 100 percent healthy yet, but he is expected to have made a lot more progress than previously anticipated.

Just two months ago, Charles was hoping to be back in time for training camp.

Now, things are finally looking up for the four-time Pro Bowler.

Before the injury sidelined him last season, Charles was averaging 5.1 yards per carry for the Chiefs. To have Charles back on the field next week would certainly be a reason to remain optimistic entering the 2016-17 season.

The Chiefs open their 2016 campaign on Sunday, Sept. 11 against the division rival San Diego Chargers.
