Florida AD Jeremy Foley to retire in October

The Florida Gators have had a great run of success for the last two decades with Athletic Director Jeremy Foley in charge, but now it is time they start looking for their next great leader.

The longtime administrator announced his retirement Monday morning.

Foley, who has been with the Florida athletic department for the last 40 years, 25 of which he spent as athletic director, announced on Monday that he will retire from his post, effective October 1.

The official decision came on Friday, during an interview at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

“You always want to leave an organization in good shape,” Foley said during the interview on Friday. “Right now, we obviously have a great group of coaches, we have had a good year and we’ve got things moving in the right direction. I just think that makes it a good time to transition.”

Jeremy Foley has certainly left the Gators in pretty great shape as he has headed the programs through 34 total national championships. The school made history in 2006 when they became the first school to win national titles in football and men’s basketball.

He has certainly left his mark on the city of Gainesville and at the University of Florida. It has been a great ride for Foley with the Gators.
