The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are looking to compete for a spot in the 2017 College Football Playoff. It looks like they will be without one of their top cornerbacks for some time after Devin Butler re-injured his foot.
During a charity golf tournament, head coach Brian Kelly announced that Butler had re-fractured his foot and would be out for 14-16 weeks. Butler originally hurt his foot ahead of the team’s Fiesta Bowl in January.
Brian Kelly tells us that cornerback Devin Butler re-fractured the same foot he previously injured. Will need surgery. Out 14-16 weeks.

“It’s tough,” Kelly said on Monday via the South Bend Tribune. “(He’s) a guy that’s struggled both in his life and in football. He had a great semester academically. We really see him trending in the right way. And then to have an injury like that was very disappointing for him. And we’re disappointed for him.”
During the 2015 season, Kevin Butler played a minimal role for the Fighting Irish as he started one game in 12 appearances and recorded 11 tackles and one fumble recovery.
However, he should play a bigger role with the team having depth issues at the cornerback position.
