WWE reveals 32 participants in Cruiserweight Classic

Back in 2008, WWE retired their Cruiserweight Championship, a title that was meant to be held by wrestlers that weighed 225 pounds or less. However, they seem to be on the path of featuring the smaller guys once again after the announced the 32 participants in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament.

The company announced this tournament earlier this year as they said it will feature some of the most athletic professional wrestlers from all over the world and within their company. Some have said that it will rival New Japan Pro Wrestling’s annual Best of the Super Juniors tournament.

The Cruiserweight Classic tournament will feature some great athletes like former WWE Tag Team Champion Brian Kendrick and former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tajiri. It will also feature name that have yet to compete in WWE like former three-time NJPW Junior Heavyweight Champion Kota Ibushi and former Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion Zack Sabre Jr.

The tournament will take place at Full Sail University, home of WWE’s developmental brand NXT, beginning on June 23 with three more taping dates on July 14, August 26 and September 14. The taped shows will air on the WWE Network beginning on July 13 at 9 p.m. EST.
