Craig Sager to call first NBA Finals game in career

NBA TV analyst Craig Sager is returning to the sidelines for something he has never done: an NBA Finals game broadcast.

In his 30-year career working as a reporter, Sager has never worked an NBA Finals game and on Thursday, he will get that opportunity. He will be at Game 6 between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday night and it should be a great moment for him.

Despite the game being shown on ABC, an ESPN network, Sager, a Turner Sports employee, was granted an exemption for the game and he will share sideline duties with Doris Burke.

“I’d like to thank Turner and ESPN for approaching me with this tremendous opportunity to be part of The Finals broadcast team,” Sager said in a statement. “I’ve been watching the series very closely and, while I do not want to distract in any way from the event itself, I look forward to being in the building for what will be an incredibly exciting Game 6. The NBA community is a very special one and this is a great honor.”

In March, Craig Sager was given a three to six month timeline to live as he has been battling Leukemia for the last few years, with which he was diagnosed in Spring 2014. He was diagnosed as no longer being in remission in late March, but he was quoted saying he would be “fighting to the end.”

What a way for him to possibly end his career.
