The New York Mets have been without captain David Wright for the last few weeks and it looks like they could be without him for a little while longer. There are reports that the third baseman could have surgery on his neck that might put him out the remainder of the season.
Just two weeks ago, it was reported that Wright was put on the disabled list and would miss 4-6 weeks with a herniated disc in his neck. Now, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com ir reporting right could have surgery on his neck that would likely sideline him for the rest of the season.
David Wright is discussing possible neck surgery with Dr. Robert Watkins in consultation with #Mets doctors. Will come to a conclusion soon.

David Wright has only played in 37 of the Mets’ 63 games this season as he has been put on rest with the injury. While he is only hitting .226 in those games, he has seven home runs and 14 RBIs in those appearances.
The team would be in the market for a new third baseman, despite picking up Kelly Johnson last week. General Manager Sandy Alderson talked about their situation at the position.
“There’s no question that going into spring training and into the first part of the regular season, we were hedging the situation at third base — or attempting to,” Alderson told the New York Daily News. “And certainly in acquiring somebody like Kelly Johnson, recognizing that we needed to further hedge. The difficulty with finding a full-time replacement is the uncertainty surrounding David.”
The Mets are currently five games out of the Washington Nationals in the NL East at this point. Without Wright, the team could take a big blow and allow the Miami Marlins, just six games back, to sneak into contention in the division.
