Ex-Gamecocks QB Connor Shaw wants to coach alma mater

Former South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw is currently competing for the Cleveland Browns starting job. However, he still holds a deep love for his alma mater.

While recently speaking to the media, Shaw revealed that he loves coaching and that when his playing days are over he would love to earn a spot on the sideline — especially as a member of the South Carolina coaching staff.

“I’m a coach at heart,” Shaw told The State. “I grew up in a coach’s family. I enjoy it and I’m good at instructing kids. It’s a lot of fun. We have a lot of camps that we scholarship in underprivileged kids that really don’t ever get a chance to do that, and you can just tell it lights their day up. I have kind of always envisioned that all my life, seeing myself as a coach, but we’ll see.

“I’d love to end up at my alma mater one day.”

Shaw is currently competing with Robert Griffin III, Austin Davis, Cody Kessler and Josh McCown.

If he ends up finding himself on the outs in Cleveland, who knows what his next move will be. There is a chance that Shaw could be picked up by another team and receive additional opportunities, but if the NFL door closes before he would expect, we know what he would like the next step of his career to be.
