Video: Shaka Smart discusses USA U18 trials

Texas head basketball coach Shaka Smart is heading up the U18 FIBA Americas team this year and it looks like he is pretty excited to help lead them to the gold medal. He recently spoke about the trials, which take place in July later this year.

This year’s team includes some of the country’s top players like Markelle Fultz and Hamidou Diallo. Smart looks to be ready to lead the team to success and possibly to the U19 championships next year.

Since the tournament changed to an every other year format in 2006, Team USA has won gold four times with their only silver coming in 2008. They have also won the last three gold medals.

The U18 team has also only lost two games in their entire run in the tournament that started in 1990. I am pretty sure that Shaka Smart, who 20-13 and made the NCAA Tournament during his first season with the Longhorns last year, can lead them to gold once again.
