Syracuse transfer Gabe Sherrod found out fate on Twitter

The Syracuse Orange were set to add a big FCS transfer in the former of Delaware State defensive end Gabe Sherrod this year. However, it was announced on Saturday that the team was going in a different direction.

That news seemed to shock the graduate transfer. Sherrod did an interview with Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey after the news broke and he revealed that the news came to him through Twitter.

“I was just in shock,” Sherrod said. “I literally found out through Twitter.”

Sherrod had huge year for the Hornets last year totaling 64 tackles with 25 for loss. His 2.3 tackles for loss per game was second in the FCS.

The graduate transfer was set to win a starting job immediately for the Orange, but it looks like the school wanted someone who was committed to the program. It was rumored that Gabe Sherrod had taken a visit to Michigan State despite being committed to Syracuse.

“The only thing that I’ll tell you is it’s definitely a misconception,” Sherrod said. “They felt that they needed to move on for their own protection to make sure that they had somebody locked in.”

The Orange actually added on another graduate transfer defensive end in Colorado’s De’Jon Wilson on Saturday. It looks like his presence may have been the reason for Syracuse ending their relationship with Sherrod.
