The Grand Valley State Lakers are one of the best Division II football teams in the country and this year, they will get treated as such. On Tuesday, they released a video revealing their new video board that will be installed ahead of the 2016 season.
The video gives off some pretty good stats like the Lakers having an average attendance of nearly 13,000 and they have led the country in attendance four years in a row.
“Grand Valley State is extremely excited to bring a new visual enhancement to Lubbers Stadium that will help provide our great fans with a special game day experience,” said GVSU Director of Athletics Tim Selgo in a release from the university. “The capabilities and the high-definition imagery of the new video board system will only enhance what is already an incredible game atmosphere.”
Since falling short in the 2001 Division II National Championship game, the Lakers have brought home four titles and have played for one more. Two of the last three years, they have advanced to the semifinals.
Grand Valley State is the winningest program in Division II history so it is only fitting that they will have the biggest video board in the country and the third biggest in the state of Michigan, behind FBS counterparts Michigan and Michigan State.
The Lakers were ranked second in the country in preseason polls. Their new board is expected to be ready by Sept. 1 when they play their first game of the year against Tiffin University.
