Just a few months ago, North Dakota introduced their new athletics’ nickname as fans voted Fighting Hawks to replace Fighting Sioux, which was eliminated in 2012 due to racial tensions. On Wednesday, they revealed their new logos for their sports’ teams.
The new logos will go into affect for the 2017-18 athletic season and it should be a welcome change for all the fans that attend events. Their wordmark will read “North Dakota Fighting Hawks” and they will keep their Kelly green and white color scheme.
“This is an outstanding day for the University of North Dakota and UND Athletics,” said UND President Ed Schafer. “We are thrilled to introduce a champion logo and wordmark for North Dakota’s teams, our champion Fighting Hawks athletics program.”
The new logo was created by SME Branding and it features a hawk in the middle of a “ND” spirit mark.
This is a big change for North Dakota and it will be a big deal once everything gets implemented over the next few years.
