Art Briles may no longer be the Baylor Bears head football coach, but he still holds a strong bond with some of the young men he coached throughout the years. That bond led to Briles helping one of his former players, Kam Martin, land with the Auburn Tigers.
According to Martin, Briles, who holds a strong relationship with Gus Malzahn, told the four-star recruit that Auburn would be “a great fit.” Martin chose Auburn over TCU.
“He helped me — I still have a great relationship with him,” Martin told 247Sports.com. “He just told me Auburn is a great fit for me with Coach Gus Malzahn and his coaching staff. He said if I was going to Baylor and he was there, it would be the same type of vibe (as at Auburn). He told me Coach Gus would take care of me. He said with him, it’s about the player, about the university.
“And shoot, he’s an offensive guru.”
Martin will be eligible to suit up for Malzahn and the Tigers immediately.
And while Briles may no longer be involved in football the way he would like to, it’s nice to see he is still looking out for and advising players he had a hand in recruiting.
