Michigan cancels satellite camp in American Samoa over Zika concerns

The Michigan football team has canceled this week’s scheduled satellite camp in American Samoa due to concerns over the Zika virus.

The escalating concerns come shortly after Harbaugh announced he and his wife were expecting their fourth child.

“The Jim Harbaugh American Samoa Gridiron camp that was slated to happen on Thursday has been cancelled due to fears of the Zika Virus,” John Raynar, communications director for the Republican Party of American Samoa, wrote on Facebook.

“It was announced late last month that Harbaugh and his wife Sarah were expecting a baby. Sources say that their families doctor advised them to skip American Samoa’s football camp as the Zika virus poses significant health risks to pregnant women.”

It’s unfortunate that the promising student-athletes will not get an opportunity to showcase their talent in front of the Wolverines staff, but it is understandable to see where the concerns stem from.

And hey, it’s not like Harbaugh and company already haven’t been on the road long enough.
