Sheryl Swoopes fired from Loyola after investigation

The University of Loyola will be looking for a new women’s basketball head coach soon. On Sunday, the school decided to fire three-year head coach Sheryl Swoopes after they concluded an investigation which has been ongoing for the last few months.

The investigation was launched after former players brought forth multiple allegations against Swoopes. One player, Cate Soan, said that she created a hostile environment and humiliated her personally.

“Sheryl Swoopes is no longer serving as the women’s basketball coach at Loyola University Chicago,” athletic director Steve Watson said in the statement. “A search for her replacement will begin immediately. Loyola thanks Sheryl for her service to the women’s basketball program.”

Swoopes has been with the school for the last three seasons, going 31-62 in her time with the team. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame earlier this year after she was the very first woman to sign with the WNBA and won three gold medals.
