Randy Edsall was fired as head coach of the Maryland Terrapins back in October, but it wasn’t long before he found another job at the next level with the Detroit Lions. He was hired in late January as the team’s director of football research/special projects and it looks like he is ready to help them with clock management.
Head coach Jim Caldwell spoke with Lions’ official website this week and talked about Edsall’s role with the team. He said that Edsall will play a big role for the team in many aspects, but time management is going to be big for him.
“He’s going to do a little bit of advanced scouting for us, taking a look at teams from a defensive standpoint to help our offense,” Caldwell said. “We’re going to have him work with a little bit of time management issues, clock management issues. Across the board, there’s going to be quite a few things.”
Randy Edsall was a head coach at the collegiate level for 17 seasons, so he should know all about how to manage the clock. I would expect him to help the Lions out in a big way this year.
