When it comes to the world of college football, players sometimes need a second chance at their careers and they look to the junior college level. East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi is one of the best at helping players get their careers turned around and Netflix’s documentary “Last Chance U” documents the legacy of the Pirates’ football program.
East Mississippi Community College has produced some of the nation’s best players over the last few years from Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly to former Alabama and current Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed to New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount.
This new documentary will follow the team through the 2015 season, which ended in turmoil after a massive brawl in the quarterfinals of the MACJC playoffs cost them a shot at their second consecutive national championships.
The documentary follows head coach Buddy Stephens, who is going into his ninth season with the Pirates and holds a 76-11 record with three national titles under his belt, and quarterback John Franklin III, who signed to play with the Auburn Tigers last year and has a chance to start with the team this year.
“Last Chance U,” inspired by the GQ article of the same name, shows the journey of many players as they go from “troublemakers to playmakers” and help the Pirates become one of the premier junior college football programs in the country.
You can watch the amazing trailer for the documentary that will be available for streaming on Netflix on July 29 below.
This should be one of the most-watched football documentaries for the streaming service.
