Wake Forest DT Zeek Rodney takes leave of absence

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons fell short of making a bowl game last year after four of their nine losses came by an average of just 5.5 points. They look to make it back to the postseason this year, but they will do so without starting defensive tackle Zeek Rodney.

Head coach Dave Clawson announced that Rodney would be taking a leave of absence from the school this year. He is dealing with some “personal issues” and is expected to return for the 2017 season.

Zeek Rodney is a rising junior and was expected to be a huge part of their defense this year. He started all 12 games in 2015 and recorded 22 tackles with two for a loss during those games.

The Demon Deacons will now likely have to rely on the play of athletes like Tylor Harris and Josh Banks to fill in for Rodney this year. Wake Forest opens up the 2016 season on Sept. 1 with the Tulane Green Wave.
