TCU, Notre Dame have discussed playing each other

Earlier on Thursday, it was announced that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish would resume their rivalry with the Michigan Wolverines in 2018. Now, there are reports they could be looking to take the field against the Big 12’s TCU Horned Frogs.

This is just another step the Fighting Irish have taken to having a pretty diverse schedule since they are independent and can play just about anyone they like.

Mac Engel of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Notre Dame had reached out to TCU at one point, but they couldn’t lock down a meeting due to the Horned Frogs’ conference schedule.

Engel wrote: “According to sources at both schools, the Irish have politely reached out to TCU about being their guest in South Bend. But TCU could not accept that first invitation because the desired date conflicted with TCU’s Big 12 schedule. In a testament to the evolution of TCU’s brand, there is still a chance the Horned Frogs could land a date, or dates, with the Irish.”

This could be huge for both the schools as a win could boost either team up the rankings when it comes to the College Football Playoff.

The two teams have only met once in the past with the Fighting Irish taking out TCU 21-0 in a 1972 match-up.
